Wine Cabinets

wine cabinetsTrying to store your wine in a practical and presentable manner can be quite difficult, especially if you don’t know the ins and outs of wine storage. Wine needs to be kept at certain temperatures and a particular humidity, so if you have a lot of wine to store, then buying a wine cabinet might be your best storage solution.

Not every house or business has a cellar, and cellars are generally the most popular way of keeping wine at the optimum temperature. But what if you live in a one storey apartment or own a small restaurant? Wine cabinets can be the perfect alternative for keeping your bottles of wine at their right temperature.

Many wine cabinets come with built in refrigeration systems. These systems are put in place to keep your wine at a constant temperature and to also monitor it for you – something a wine cellar could not provide. A refrigerator can work for keeping just a few bottles of wine cool, but if you need room for all your food as well, a wine cabinet is a great separate storage space that allows you to keep your fridge clutter free!

Wine cabinets can come in all sizes and it is safe to assume that as soon as you have a cabinet, it will soon be filled. Think of the occasions where you might have had a party and guests have brought a bottle along that got left over, or those times where you have bought a case because buying in bulk was more cost effective. Over time, bottles are accumulated and it is therefore a more sensible option to get a cabinet in a large size – even if you don’t think you’ll need all that room.

At a glance, a large wine cabinet can look like a wardrobe and can usually hold up to 440 bottles. Some cabinets may come with wooden doors, or some may come with glass doors. Cabinets with glass doors are great for display purposes and you can see the contents of the cabinet without having to open the doors. Make sure that if you do opt for a glass door cabinet, that the glass is UV protected so that any direct light won’t affect the quality of the wine.

A Roma style cabinet has solid doors, which is great for concealing your wine, keeping it cool and keeping it out of the light. This style can also come in a variety of sizes so if you think that 440 bottles does sound like an unrealistic amount for your household, then opt for a smaller 220 bottle single door cabinet.

If you want to add a wine cabinet to an otherwise dull living or dining area, a Credenza style cabinet would not only look great and be a great conversation piece, it will also be great for conveniently offering a bottle of wine to your guests too.

When it comes to buying wine cabinets, they are admittedly not a cheap purchase, and if you do spend very little on a cabinet it is very likely to be of poor quality. If it is top quality wine storage that you seek, spend a little more and you will be able to taste the benefits in your properly-stored bottles of wine!
