How To Make A Metal Wine Rack

Some wine lovers have chosen to design their own metal wine rack to better compliment their wines, kitchens and homes. Metal wine racks have become extremely popular with many wine collectors because they are easy to design and, unlike many traditional wood wine racks, offer the flexibility to compliment multiple areas in the home.



You can actually have a lot of fun while designing your new metal wine rack. Because metal is so easily worked with, you can use your imagination freely and create a design unique to your living area that will be the envy of your friends and family and that you can look at with pride for many years to come.



Some of the more common metal wine rack designs are known as “curls” which hold the wine bottles in place or  you can create a design called a “wave. This design creates cradles that you lay the bottles into.

If they are unbalanced you’ll run the risk of bottles sliding out and it will never look right. It’s best not to undertake a hazardous project like this without the proper supervision.



Unfortunately, designing a metal wine rack will require some special skill such as welding and a general knowledge of artistry. You’ll also need to have access to welding and heating equipment. You must have these to heat the metal in order to make it pliable and to bond it together once you’ve created the desired shape. If you don’t have these skills or equipment you can always find someone that does and explain or make a drawing design of what you’d like to have done.



Creating a metal wine rack from scratch can be very tricky and even dangerous work. It’s always best to leave it to a professional if you don’t have the needed skills.



Most racks are made from steel and then coated with a protective coating in order to protect the metal from rust and other damage. Having a metal wine rack on display can be a beautiful site when it’s made properly.
